Andrea E. Evans appointed director of Carruthers Center

Northeastern Illinois University has appointed Andrea E. Evans as director of the Jacob H. Carruthers Center for Inner City Studies, effective Jan. 16.

Chiara String Quartet to perform in Jewel Box Series

The Chiara String Quartet will perform Jan. 19 as part of Northeastern Illinois University’s Jewel Box Series. The performance will take place at 7:30 p.m. in the Recital Hall on the Main Campus, 3701 W. Bryn Mawr Ave.

Bob Woodward, Carl Bernstein to speak at Northeastern Illinois University

Journalism icons and authors Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein will participate in a conversation about current events as Northeastern Illinois University presents the third installment of the Daniel L. Goodwin Distinguished Lecture Series on Feb. 8. It will be the first time they have appeared together since the November 2016 election. The event will take place at 7:30 p.m. in the Auditorium on the Main Campus, 3701 W. Bryn Mawr Ave. in Chicago.

ENLACE student project raises almost $10,000 for undocumented student resources

Each year, Associate Professor of Literacy, Leadership and Development Gabriel Cortez challenges his Human Relations and Leadership class to create a group activity that results in learning and real-world impact. Each year, his class delivers over a tight, six-week time span with outstanding final projects such as creating a guide to Hispanic-Serving Institutions or organizing an event to empower undergraduate student success.

Alice McGee brings gift from Oprah Winfrey to Commencement

Adapting a moment made famous by her former boss and mentor, Northeastern Illinois University alumna Alice McGee announced she had a special gift for the graduates during the University’s Commencement ceremony on Dec. 17 at UIC Pavilion in Chicago.

Northeastern appoints five professors emeriti

Northeastern Illinois University has awarded emeritus status to five retiring faculty members. They will be honored during Commencement on Dec. 17.

Northeastern awards the prestigious status to eligible retiring faculty members upon the recommendation of the department or program, with the concurrence of the dean and the provost, and with the approval of the University president.

National Science Foundation funds STEM education conference at Northeastern Illinois University

The National Science Foundation has awarded Northeastern Illinois University a $100,000 grant to help the institution organize and host a two-day regional conference on enhancing undergraduate STEM education at Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs).
