Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle will speak at Northeastern Illinois University on March 8 as part of HERstory Month (Honoring Women in Public Service and Government) and to celebrate International Women’s Day.

Trumpeter Brandon Ridenour opens Chicago Brass Festival weekend

Virtuoso trumpeter, pianist and composer Brandon Ridenour will open the Chicago Brass Festival with a 7:30 p.m. performance on Friday, March 11, in the Recital Hall on the Main Campus at Northeastern Illinois University, 3701 W. Bryn Mawr Ave. Ridenour will be joined by pianist Rachel Naomi Kudo.

11 honored at Black Heritage Awards

Eleven members of the Northeastern Illinois University community were honored during the 14th Annual Black Heritage Awards ceremony on Feb. 19 at the Jacob H. Carruthers Center for Inner City Studies.

The Heritage Awards Ceremony was hosted by the African and African American Resource Center and the Black Heritage Committee. This year’s honorees were:
