Northeastern to launch pantry for students

Beginning Monday, Dec. 7, Northeastern Illinois University will open a pantry for enrolled students. The NEIU Student Pantry will be open twice a week and will supply non-perishable food items and toiletries via donations from members of both the University community and the public.

Daniel López Jr. named Vice President for Student Affairs

Daniel López Jr. has been hired as Northeastern Illinois University’s next Vice President for Student Affairs.

López, who currently serves as associate vice president for Student Affairs, has more than 20 years of demonstrated success in higher education administration in both academic and student support services. His appointment will take effect on Jan. 1, 2016.

Northeastern completes Pedroso Center expansion project

Northeastern Illinois University officially opened its expanded Angelina Pedroso Center for Diversity and Intercultural Affairs during a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Nov. 30.

Ensemble Español presents holiday concerts

Ensemble Español, in residence at Northeastern Illinois University, will present its annual Family Holiday Concert Series and Concierto Familiar in December.

The sold-out Tales of Spain Holiday Concert, a multimedia Spanish dance and music concert series for grade and high school students and families, will be presented Dec. 15 and 16.

The Concierto Familiar will take place Dec. 18 at 7:30 p.m. in the Auditorium on the Main Campus, 3701 W. Bryn Mawr Ave. in Chicago.

Noteworthy at Northeastern: Reasons to be thankful

As Thanksgiving approaches, there is much to be thankful for at Northeastern Illinois University. With this week’s edition of Noteworthy at Northeastern, we’re thankful for the Student Travel Award program that pays for students to travel the globe to present their research, a new crop of national honor society members, the latest new book by a faculty member and for next week’s ribbon-cutting for the expansion of the Pedroso Center.

A world of travel opportunities

Terrie Albano loves journalism and literature. She loves them so much, in fact, that she won four awards from the National Federation of Press Women for her writing and editing.

But with the honors also came a problem: Albano, an Interdisciplinary Studies undergraduate student who is concentrating on English, couldn’t afford to go the annual conference in Anchorage, Alaska, to receive her awards and present her work.
